**note** Odyssey drivers and axles will work with the Macneil cassette hub. While designing these new hubs Macneil knew that they were in for a hassle since they 'stray' from what has been done in the past. In order to make the flanges thick enough to be machined (to create a groove for the outside spokes to sit in) they needed to make their our own forge molds. This process costs a lot more than using the molds out of the book that everyone else uses, but they knew that they would be worth the wait and the trouble, so they pushed on. Since they were making their our own molds, all of the normal hub restrictions were out the window, and they could make exactly what we wanted. They pushed the flanges out to the edges of the hubs as far as they could, which increases the strength of this 36 spoke wheel as strong or stronger than 48's. Lighter and stronger. The idea behind the slotted flanges is to protect the spokes from grinds by making them sit flush into the hub body, and the thicker flanges won’t bend.
